Dog Bed
Does your dog have a sleeping area or known in the wild as a den, which he or she sees as a place of relaxation?
A dogs place of rest should be considered.
The first consideration should be that when you first get your dog home, you should introduce them to the place of rest that you require your dog to sleep and relax for the long term. Use a dog crate to help with the transitional phase of unsettlement to relaxation. Once your dog is exhibiting relaxation in the crate, you can then replace this with a dog bed or other preferred sleeping arrangements. This is now your dogs place of relaxation.
Second consideration is that if you live alone or like having a dog as company on your bed at night to sleep with you, there is nothing wrong with this, as long as you invite the dog onto the bed once you have been in it for a while and let them know where they can sleep on the bed. Dogs are pack animals and would all sleep together in the wild. It's a good way to form a really powerful bond with your dog.
The third consideration is try and visualize a clear dome over your dogs place of rest. What I mean by this is this space should mean relaxation, peace and have a meaning of 'no harm will happen in this space...' Your dogs resting area then comes into play when we leave our dog for periods of time, because the dog will naturally migrate to a space that means relaxation, 9/10 this will be their dog bed, this space will then trigger a mind state of relaxation, so on your return you should find that they are still resting peacefully.
All of the above is based on a well balanced dog..! Require more help with your dogs behaviour or training? Then why not give me a call today...
